Guide To Benalmadena

Benalmadena is a superb tourist destination, comprising of the main town by the beach, and the beautiful Mediterranean; The town of Arroyo de la miel and the hilltop village of Benalmadena pueblo. Situated 12 km west of Malaga and the airport, between Torremolinos and Fuengirola.

This safe and friendly town is home to an array of amazing facilities, catering for couples, friends, groups and families with children alike. Miles of golden sandy beaches, where you can relax by the sea for the day, hire a sun bed and have lunch in a seafront restaurant "chiringuito".

Tivoli World theme park, is a great day out for all the family, from here you can take the cable car to the top of the mountain for spectacular views. There is a casino for an evening of fun for the adults. Benalmadena is home to two aquariums, one in the port and a wonderful day out where you can see dolphin and sea lion shows, penguins in their icy habitat, birds, snakes, lizards and fish. Also the water park in Torremolinos is just a short bus ride away.

For more fun, why not try ice skating at the indoor rink in the town. You can then take a short bus ride up to the stunning Buddhist temple, with its beautiful views. Next to this is the butterfly park. Don’t forget your butterfly card, so as you go around the park you can tick off all the species that you see. Just down from here is the Castillo Monumento Colomares dedicated to Christopher Columbus and is said to be one of the most beautiful castles in Spain.

Just up from the seafront is Parque la paloma. It is a 200,000 square meter park including a lake with ducks and swans, animals, birds, two children’s parks and picnic areas. Here you can enjoy a day surrounded by nature and wildlife, feed the swans and have a cool drink in one of the parks cafes and bars.

The port in Benalmadena is a lovely place to go for excellent boutique shopping and a wealth of international restaurants for dining out, having an ice cream, or just a relaxing drink and a tapa, while admiring the millionaire’s yachts. It has been voted "marina of the world" twice now, and is always full of activity.

Benalmadena pueblo is a more traditional part of the town. This beautiful white washed village on the hill with its winding streets and many tapas bars, restaurants and shops is a lovely day out. Restaurant La Fuente is well worth a try if you come up here.

Other places to try for dining out in the main town are, La Sirena, on the seafront, for fresh fish, paella or traditional grilled sardines, cooked on an open fire on the beach. If your looking for a great steak, give Steakhouse Angus a go in the port, or Jacks American Brasserie for juicy ribs and great burgers.

The Nightlife in Benalmadena caters for all tastes, from the towns "24 hr" square, with an array of night clubs and bars, where it is normal to come home in daylight, or for a more relaxed evening try the Puerto marina where many bars have live music and dance floors where you can have a cocktail or two and dance the night away.

Malaga is a must visit, this a short train ride away. There is so much to see and do here, from the beautiful cathedral, the AlcazabaMoorish hilltop castle, the famous Picasso Museumandthe port, not to mention the town center with its wealth of shops, bars and restaurants.

If golf is your thing, you are definitely in the right place. Benalmadena has a number of courses. Golf Torrequebrada, Lauro Golfand Mijas Golf International.To name just a few.

For traveling around the coast, there are plenty of buses and a train station. Buses run regularly from the main bus stop next to 24 hr square; Here there is a kiosk where you can buy your tickets. The train station is in Arroyo de la miel, traveling to Fuengirola and in the other direction, the airport, Malaga and beyond. It is Always advisable to buy your tickets before getting on the train.

The weather in Benalmadena, being situated in one of the sunniest places in Europe is wonderful. The average temperature it 18c-26c (64f-82f) The warmest months are July and august with an average of 14 hours of sunshine a day.
